Hadiths from Imam Hosain (as); #222 Fasting

The benefit of fasting and the month of Ramazan.

Hazrat Aba Abdillah (as) was passing through the streets of Medina with his companions, they reached a group of people who were busy playing and laughing loudly; Imam turned to his companions and with annoyance said:

اِنَّ الله عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ جَعَلَ شَهْرَ رَمَضانَ مِضْماراً لِخَلقِهِ ,يَسْتَبِقُونَ فِيهِ بِطاعَتِهِ إِلى رِضْوانِهِ

,فَسَبَقَ فِيْهِ قَوْمٌ فَفَازُوا ,وَ تَخَلَّفَ آخَرُوْنَ فَخابُوا ,فَالْعَجَبُ كُلُّ العَجَبِ مِنَ الضَّاحِكَ اللّاعِبِ فِي

اليَوم الَّذي يُثابُ فِيهِ اَلْمُحْسِنُونَ ,وَ يَخِيْبُ فِيهِ الْمُقَصِّرُونَ ,وَ اَيْمُ اللهِ لُوْ كُشِفَ الْغِطاءُ لَشَغَلَ

مُحْسِنٌ بِاِحْسانِهِ وَ مُسِىئٌ بِاِساءَتِهِ1

Imam Hosain (as) said, "Indeed God, esteemed and honored, made the month of Ramadhan a means of awakening and for His slaves progress towards His heaven through worship and obedience. Some in this month have gone ahead of others and have been delivered. Some have turned away and lost.

Therefore, surprise! Surprise! Those who are laughing and busy playing on the day when the righteous receive their reward and those who were negligent will be grieving of their own loss.
I swear by God! If they were to raise the curtains you would see the righteous busy doing good and the wicked busy doing wrong.2
